The issue
Many of us purchase our clothes without considering who made our clothes and under what conditions. Fashion is a booming industry, with a very dark background and while information on what happens in sweatshops is easily accessible online, not much is done about it.
Fast fashion is the over production of clothing, as trends continue to change, fast fashion brands continue to mass produce clothing, getting rid of the old and on to the new. This is further amplified with consumerism and the desire to want more. Studies have shown a direct link between consumerism and the financial burden on sweatshops in third world countries.
Sweatshops
A sweatshop is where workers manually produce clothing for low wages, long hours and poor conditions. Fast fashion brands rely on sweatshops to be able to purchase quality clothes for cheap.
The Solution
The fast fashion world runs on the exploitation of vulnerable garment workers in third world countries. The solution to this is through spreading information, pushing for a united workforce, fighting for liveable wages, decent working conditions and forever ending workplace harassment.
As the name suggests, Worker welfare is FOR the workers and their basic human rights. That is the heart and soul of Worker Welfare and we do this by spreading information and setting up financial aid for struggling garment workers in Bangladesh.
